Hold has no accounts, no servers and no analytics. Everything the app knows stays on your phone, and nobody, including us, can see it.
What's on your phone
- The name, face (an emoji) and colour you choose.
- Your days together: who you held phones with (their name, face and colour) and when.
- Any moment photos you add. They stay in the app on your phone and are never sent to anyone.
Like any app's data, this is included in your phone's own backup (iCloud or Google) if you have that turned on. Hold itself never sends it anywhere. Deleting a person's history, or deleting the app, removes it from your phone.
Bluetooth
Hold only uses Bluetooth while you're pressing the screen, to find the phone right next to yours. During a hold the phones swap your name, face and colour, plus a random code so the app can tell people apart. That's all. Hold doesn't use your location, doesn't track where you go, and doesn't build a profile of you.
Camera and photos
Hold only asks for the camera or your photo library when you add a moment photo, and only uses the photo you pick or take.
Invite links
An invite link looks like holdtoday.app/with/alex. Your name, face and colour are in the part after the #, which browsers never send to the website. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and uses Google Fonts. Like any website, those services receive the visitor's IP address to deliver the page. We don't run any tracking or analytics on it.
Children
Hold collects nothing from anyone, children included.
